Win the war against colds and allergies.
We survived the Texas summer and now allergy and cold and flu season is upon us. Check out the links below for Dr. Bedgood’s preferred ways to tackle the scratchy throat, booger filled, fatigue making headache filled time of year.
[Links below lead to products I love. Through amazon I may get a few bucks but I only recommend stuff I really like and use!]
Cedar, mold and ragweed have you feeling like your head is a lead balloon with a vice around it? Thanks Texas! Get ahead of it early with my favorite homeopathic allergy remedy Allergena allergy drops. If your allergies are already in full bloom, I recommend:
Morning and evening saline flushes to clear pollen and dust off mucosa and clearing out excessive mucus.
An antihistamine like cetrizine or loratadine or for a non-pharmaceutical option try Quercitin & Nettles (by Designs for Health)
Diffusing eucalyptus oil bedside at night to open airways and loosen and decrease mucus. *Avoid in rooms with cats. Instead opt for a topical version to rub on your chest or feet.
Bring home some Flu or COVID along with the souvenirs from your last conference or vacation. Makes sure you have Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Zinc and Quercitin on board (get them from Pure and Thorne through our dispensary link) and check out the tips below to make those symptoms more bearable.
Relax in a warm bath with Cold Season epsom salt to soothe sore muscles with the combo or magnesium, peppermint & rosemary.
Chew or sip on ginger to settle an upset stomach and clear your sinuses.
Stimulate your immune system, decrease inflammation and decrease viral replication with echinaccea or elderberry. Take echinacea as a tincture for best effect or add some elderberry syrup to tea for adults or children. (Also check out Immunoberry liquid by Designs for Health)
Steep up a cup of Yogi Breathe Deep for an all in one of eucalyptus, thyme, peppermint, ginger and licorice.
Want to build up your homemade arsenal?
Thyme is easy to find and grow and works on both allergies and viruses. It can soothe sore throats, decreases congestion and works as an expectorant to pull that gunk out of your chest. Make your own thyme infused honey by placing a few clean springs in a jar covered with honey for 2 weeks or buy some delicious ready to use infused honey here.
Garlic isn’t just for cooking. It has great antibacterial and heart healthy benefits. Let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before crushing for the best benefit. Add 1 onion, 1 bulb or garlic, a 3 inch segment of ginger, 1 orange (sliced), 1 jalepeno (sliced) and 1 tbsp of dry echinacea (optional) to a jar and cover with apple cider vinegar. Close up tightly for 2-3 weeks, drain and discard solids. Add equal part honey and tsp of cayenne for an immune boosting fire cider. Take a tsp daily when traveling, under stress or feeling ill.
*The above is basic advice and while these products are generally considered safe there is always the risk of allergic reaction or side effect. Check with Dr. Bedgood or other physician based on your personal health history.
